The good news is that you are not a human! A human being is made up of a body, a homo sapiens body, a mind and a being or soul. What you really are is not these. Just as one may own an automobile, that which you really are owns a body. Your body is owned by you, it is not you. You have a conscious mind, you are not a conscious mind. You can be conscious, but you are not consciousness. Even when you are not conscious (for example, as in deep sleep), you still exist. You have a soul, you are not a soul. Your soul can leave your body at the time of death and be reborn. Your soul was created at the beginning of the Universe and will cease to exist at the end of the Universe. You will not cease to exist at the end of the Universe; nor, were you created at the beginning of the Universe. You are not that which was created. You, along with everyone else, created the Universe. You are not any kind of physical thing. You are not matter or light or space or time. You are beyond matter, light, space, and time. You, along with everyone else, are that from which matter, light, space and time have come. You and everyone else, taken collectively, are what God is. You are a divine individual that has the power of choice. What you really are is a non-physical existence that can exercise the power of choice. Put more precisely, what you are is the ability to act autonomously and who you are is the one who exercises that ability. Yes, divine non-physical individuals do become identified with their own souls. They experience themselves individually as a being at the centre of a mind. It seems to them they are a viewpoint which sees dreams and the content of the mind. Some also become identified with their own mind. They experience themselves as personalities or as consciousness. They think they are a being who desires things and tries to get them. Some individuals also become identified with their own brain. They experience themselves as the seer, hearer, taster, or smeller and they think that they are that which makes the body do things. Some individuals also become identified with their own body. They do not think they have a body, they think that they are their body. If people who are identified with body, mind, and soul read a statement, "You are not a human being", they test this statement against what they experience themselves to be and decide that the statement is wrong. However, they are wrong! If a person is placed under heavy drug hypnosis and told over and over that he is a woman while being beaten, even when the drug wears off he will think he is a woman, especially if he has been dressed as a woman. If the hypnotised man read a statement that said 'You are not a woman' he would consult his dress and his mind and decide that the statement was wrong. However, he would be wrong! Only by self-inspection would he discover he is a man. If he investigates he will be surprised to find that his body is not a woman's body. In the same way, one who is identified with a body, mind, and soul, would need to turn inward and ask "What am I?"; that is, to do self-inspection until one discovers that one is not a body, a mind or even a soul. Now, of course, you may not want to make this discovery and de-identify. Just as a person viewing a motion picture and who has become identified with the hero or heroine, you may not want to be reminded that you are sitting in a theatre watching coloured lights play on a screen. You, as an identified divine non-physical individual may not want to be reminded that you're not a human being. It spoils the fun! On the other hand, you may not like the movie, or you're just plain tired of movies and may want out of movies and theatres all together. You may just want Reality. Then, for you it would be a favour to state to hear that, "You are not a human being." Even so you may still think that statement wrong. Not until you have done self-inspection long enough to experience for yourself what you really are would you know the statement to be correct. In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, "The Father and I are one." The Jews in the Portico of Solomon of the Temple wanted to stone him for blasphemy and said, "You are only a man and you claim to be God." Jesus answered, "Is it not written in the Law, 'I said, you are gods?' So the Law uses the word gods of those to whom the Word of God was addressed, and scripture cannot be rejected." Jesus was quoting God from the Psalm of Asaph 82:6 where God said, "You too are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you." It is as if there is a single ability to act which can be individually exercised by any one of us: We are the gods who, by exercising the ability to act create and evolve the Universe. We made our souls, minds, personalities and bodies, became identified with them, forgot we did this and are lost in life, prisoners of our ignorance. There is a way out if you want liberation from the play of life. The way out is by self-reflection, self-inspection and accepting that others can exercise the ability to act, as you can. Turning the other cheek when you are ignored, insulted and assaulted is the act of accepting that others can exercise choice.
