2017 July Enlightenment Intensive "WHO AM I" is a phrase that echoes through the heart and soul of individuals participating at an Enlightenment Intensive. And if it wasn’t for the mis-identifications and distractions of the ‘mind’ it would be relatively easy to contemplate and self realize the Truth of who you are. When you set out to contemplate who you are, instead of ACTUALLY realizing who you are and becoming conscious of THAT, the mind regurgitates all these accumulated thoughts and ideas that you have about yourself. It’s these thoughts that are stored in the mind that rise into your awareness, grab your attention and distract you. This is a problem for those who want to know who they are. Fifteen hundred years ago the Chinese Zen Master Huang Po said: "It is not until your thoughts cease, not until you abandon seeking for something, not until your mind is as motionless as the mountain that you will be on the right road to the Gateway of Stillness that I call enlightenment. Recognize that your awakened mind comes in a flash and is the Buddha itself.” The purpose of the Enlightenment Intensive retreat is to rapidly empty the mind of mis-identification, confusion and uncertainty.
